Last Sunday, my son announced at the dinner table that he’d like to go and see the actual performance of the Nutcracker. My parents were delighted by the idea of introducing my childhood tradition to their grandson. We agreed to go as a family and see the Nutcracker performed at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts.
When we got to the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts, we got my son a treat at the snack bar while my husband and I enjoyed a couple of lattes. They do also serve beer and wine that you can take into the theater, I plan on enjoying a glass of wine there when my husband and I go back to see the Elvis Lives show for date night in January.
Once we found our seats, my son eagerly waited for the show to start. When the music started, my son was entranced by the colorful costumes, beautiful music, wonderful dancing, and vibrant sets. I will always remember his widened, captivated eyes enjoying every moment. As a mom, it was a very proud moment for me.
The story takes place the night before Christmas, when young Clara receives a mysterious, magical Nutcracker doll as a present. With a little Christmas magic, the Nutcracker turns into a handsome young man and takes her on a journey through the Land of Enchantment, filled with captivating dances from faraway lands.
When the performance was over, he stated that his favorite part was watching the brave Nutcracker fight off those evil mice and save the beautiful Clara. He hummed the Nutcracker Suite the entire way home.
The Macomb Center did an excellent job with their performance of The Nutcracker. The dancers and music were wonderful and my son stayed entertained until the very end.
If you’re in the Michigan area and looking for something unique to do, I highly recommend seeing a show there. It’s always a top quality experience and we’ve enjoyed many shows there as a family for years. Exposing your children to the wonder of a live musical or show is something they’ll never forget; it expands their imaginations and creativity. It creates memories that will last them a lifetime!
